Well it is here...well almost...in Europe Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is on the shelves! And here is the US the Harry Potter frenzy is just starting to rev up!People in the UK had a grand time awaiting the arrival of author JK ROWLING at Edinburgh Castle where she read to 70 young fans who won the chance to be at the launch and interview her. "I'm excited about this book," she said as she arrived at the castle," she said, "You get a lot of answers in this book. I can't wait for everyone to read it." Not every one is excited about the release of Book number six; it seems the new Pope has some concerns over it. I find it absolutely amazing that with all the horrific things going on in this world the Pope has to make a comment about Harry Potter.
When the last book came out I wrote a piece that explained that Rowling had to go with the witch and wizard theme otherwise the books would have never sold. If she did an angel/demon theme they would have been considered Christian or religious fiction and she would not have been as sucessful. Perhaps the Pope should worry about how Catholics and other Christian taliban members are using another book, namely the Bible, to hate, judge, conndemn and justify behaviors that are the real reason people turn away from organized religion to begin with.So if you want click here to look at the story about the Pope's reaction to the book's release.
As for me, I say screw you Pope; I am still a good Episcopalian and I am looking forward to reading my copy, when I get it of course, of the new book! I think you need to worry about the real evils in the world, not these stupid ass things that really have no effect on kid's other thenm teaching them that fighting evil is a good thing. But you wouldn't want to fight evil would you Pope Benedict- please somebody put a silencing charm on this guy. He represents a government in Vatican City, not a religion that actually does what Christ commanded.
More on Book Number 6's release here in the States tomorrow.
